About Author Elizabeth Rusch

Elizabeth Rusch first become interested in our democracy while watching the U.S. Senate in action during an 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C.  Rusch has a Masters in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley, and has served as a Jacob K. Javits Fellow in the U.S. Senate, but she is better known for her award-winning books. Her work as been recognized by ALA, NCTE, NSTA, Kirkus, SLJ, the Junior Library Guild, the Subaru Prize and the New York Public Library.

 

Rusch also the author of more than a hundred magazine articles in publications such as Harper’s, Smithsonian, Mother Jones, Teacher, and Portland Monthly. Spurred by what she learned writing this book, Rusch has begun advocating for democracy from her home in Portland, Oregon.
